I'm looking into getting a camera for both stills and video work, but as this is strictly for my wn personal use at this point I'm trying to work out what the best option is in terms of "bang for buck" with the HD video capable DSLRs on the market. I could get a Canon EOS 50D quite reasonably at the minute which does 720p at 30fs and 1080 at 20fps, but I know nothing about the sound (less important to me, really) and all I can find out about the video format is that it's "mov". I'm also keen on the Pentax K-x (not actually out yet but my previous experience with SLRs has all been Pentax and very good too), which can do 720p at 25fps, but again no idea on the video format!

Opinions greatly received, thank you!

Check out the new Canon 7D
Thanks! I'd love to have £1,500 to spend on a camera, but unfortunately I think £600 is gonna be my upper limit! Unless you know of any good deals on that camera?
Nikon D90. I use one, works really well for both the HD video and amazing for still photography. Might be close to your price range too.
I have bought the Canon EOS 500D and it Rocks ¡¡ 720p at 30fs and 1080 at 18fps Quite filmlike ¡¡ I think it is the best bang of the buck I also like the Cnon EOS 7D but it is more expensive
it's not a 7 D but you could start with this and be very creative...

Hi there!
DSLR's sre really starting to be used a lot for HD video now for obvious reasons- depth of field etc.
There is just one aspect of difficulty which can be easily addressed. Awkward to hold!
I totally recommend the Steady Vision www.steadyvision.info it has saved the day for me many times as it greatly enhances
stability and perspectives. ;~)
