I've entered and won some during my career, but lately have become, I don't know, cynical, disenchanted of many of the Video Award Programs out there.
When I was President of the NJ Associated Press Broadcasters it was different. We would trade entries with other regions for judging and the judges would offer critiques and discuss what they liked about each entry. There was feedback.
Many of those out there today won't even tell you what criteria they use for judging, never mind give any feedback.
I could go on and on about that, but here is my question, other than say the Telly Awards, the DV Awards, The Aegis Awards, what is out there. I ask, because some of the suits in my office want awards...I've won at least one of each of the three I mentioned, but one will never see another dollar of my hard earned cash again. (In private biz the only award that matters is the clients check and their smile).
but they want me to enter some of our projects. What's out there? Are there any organizations that fun video contests? I remember in my radio newsdays winning some from the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Association... Are there any in the field of legal video, video that has to do with the courts?
What are your thoughts on award programs in general?

I think, they just want free content
just to get a job for them
so i do not lost time with this any more
many year ago it's was different
But you have some film club and art oriented organization how show some film and they made discussion
and they like to get the filmmaker as a guess this is more interesting.
I all the time said i will like when the people copy my film on dvd it's funny i should be mad about this but for me if they like it at a point to made a copy for them it's because they like what i made.( and this is a sort of recognition ) And i just made documentary.Presently i am working on my first documentary made in English all the other was made in French. I never made documentary longer of 57 minutes but this time i like to made a version of 1h 30 and my traditional 50 to 52 minutes, a long and a short version of the same film... i think it's will help for the distribution. What you think about this Bill.
BTW i just watch the film RED with Bruce Willis i like the editing and you have a sort of evolution in the transition.
Permalink Reply by grinner on February 16, 2011 at 2:35am The first time I won a Telly I got a letter needing $275 for the trophy. That's when it dawned on me that everybody wins, as long as they buy. I don't even list the trophies when asked that question on a form or app. I mention all the hugs and high fives I have gotten from very happy clients instead.
Outside of emmys, I'd skip em.
Permalink Reply by Bill Mecca on February 16, 2011 at 7:27am I have for the past severalyears, but as I said this request comes from the bosses. One year I won a telly for a project at work and didn't for one of my personal projects. I sent an email asking what the judging criteria was (based on the slight differences between the two projects I had my suspicions that it was the flashier video that won) But the response I got was 'the judges look at everything from top to bottom". that's when I lost all respect for the Telly. I have judged contests in the past and we knew what we were looking for, and provided feedback to the creator. To respond the way they did means that either everybody who enters wins(I didn't) or they just flip coin or pull names from a hat.
Other contests, while they don't provide feedback, do list the judging criteria, i.e. use of sound, etc.
I have to tell the bosses where to throw their money away.
I am looking for some organizations in the legal community that offer awards.
