I have a hospital client who recently purchased a Canon Vixia HF100 camcorder.  This is a Flash based camera in AVCHD.  He uses Adobe Premiere and is struggling with video capture.  The device does not have a firewire port, so Premiere can not utilize its capture program.  If the client moves the files direct from the flash card to his computer, Premiere does not recognize the file type.  If he burns DVD's they are not readable by Premiere either.

Any suggestions?

Hi there,
Your thread caught my eye as I have been burned a few times on "format" issues. You MUST do your homework before buying any technologies, especially new technologies. I googled and found this thread:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=913865

it says AVCHD is not supported even with Adobe Premier Pro. They start recommending investing in other software like sony vegas (oh only supporting sony hardware) and Pinnacle (groan, it is so loaded with bugs). More $ when you do not want to spend it. If they can possibly return the camera it actually might be a viable solution. Remember, DV format is going to be around for a long long time and it is always a supported format for software editors.

I hope you can find a solution quickly. Again, take your time and do research before taking action.
good luck!
MPEG Streamclip should do a nice job on converting the files to something he can use, and its FREE...

The high-definition Vixia HF100, gets it right the first time. A sleek, matte-gray compact model with a well-rounded feature set, great video, and excellent performance.
