Here's a post I just made in the lighting group about my Comer 1800 Light------------------


I got the light from these guys: http://lacolorshop.com/products/item.asp?id=cm1800

It lights up nicely, and while using a Sony NP 970 battery (the largest) the light gives 5 hours of burn time when set to the middle setting.

I come from a Sony 10/20 light, and the difference is staggering

It's pretty heavy at 1 pound without a battery, but I have it mounted to the handle of my FX1 instead of on the front where the cold shoe mount would have it placed by default, and I was pleased with how balanced it was.

So far I am very happy with it.

Hello all,
this is my first post!

I am also interested in purchasing a light for my canon xh-A1s. I saw the Comer 1800 light in another forum but I also see it has a smaller version - the 900. I'm trying to decide between the two with some thoughts in mind: the added weight to my camera, the fact that the 1800 could be too blinding.

Thoughts?

I never tried the 900, but the 1800 has a dimmer that goes from 'just barely' to 'blinding' and all stops in between :)

The light weighs a pound without the battery, but i am able to still balance it on my Glidecam just fine...I don't feel the light is 'too heavy' at all (my original post about it's heaviness was based on my last light which was a Sony 10/20....but the difference in lighting is staggering)

seen it for a few bucks cheaper on ebay, but LAcolorshop is a good place to deal with.

Nice light, I like that you can use regular batteries in it. In case you forget to recharge or need to switch quickly. I also like the price. ;-)

Hello again,

thanks for the replies. I am close to deciding on the Comer 1800 LED light based on a lot of comparisons. The light takes a nikon battery, so there will be yet another device to charge up and make sure you have spare batteries for versus having AA batteries around. But then the light output is higher along with features. There is a very helpful thread in another forum I'm sure you are all familiar with;

I am able to use my Sony NP 970 battery which also powers my camera, so that was actually a nice feature for me

Here is a light i picked up on eBay for pretty cheap:

it has 3 brightness settings (although i would much preffer a dimmer), and it has a strobe light setting.

It came with a diffuser and a sepia filter.
One night while filming a live concert i need a difuser in a pinch and forgot mine at home so i stuck a piece of paper towel into it and it worked amazingly well!
Something to be said about being creative lol

I have had my Comer 1800 light now for a few weeks and I would definitely recommend it. It's solidly built and sturdy. No plastic to break off. The battery is easily mounted on the back so that means swapping out for a new one is a cinch without any issues. the dimmer allows you to deliver exactly how much light you need.
