Hello, I'm a graphic designer but have done some small video projects in the past. I was approached by a potential client wanting 150 1 minute commercials for his custom pen website. I attached the following proposal, thinking my rates are fair and he's telling me to quote him lower (even though he won't get other quotes nor tell me a budget he has in mind!) Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you!! ---- $225 per 1 minute commercial (10% discount based on 150+ commercials, anything under 150 is $250) (includes script, filming, producing, directing, equipment, editing, rendering) Minus $20 per commercial if script is provided. I viewed a few videos from discountmugs.com and I could guarantee a higher production value than their commercials. If the price fits into your budget, the next step would be to hire an actor/actress. Unless you have someone in mind you would like to be the spokesperson, I highly recommend that I hire a professional. I'm hoping to find one for $10 per commercial (based on 150 commercials is $1500 and I'm estimating 30 hours of filming required for this project.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?<wbr></wbr>v=8fFJb_FnCF0&a... Sample of what he showed me he wants for 150 of his products. |

A client like this will never be happy with what you produce, will want change after change and not want to pay for it. He doesn't want to pay for it now. Good luck finding a pro on camera talent that will work for $10 a spot you'll need it.

Permalink Reply by David Power on December 2, 2011 at 5:22am I am with Bill one this one!
The prices you are quoting are very low and should not be beaten by other professional video production companies, if he queries this any further say " the price is only going to go up" than he will hopefully walk away from you
Again as Bill said hes never going to be happy with the end result and you'll be working on this job for weeks.
My advice RUN!

Permalink Reply by Krissy Weinstein on December 2, 2011 at 8:19am Thank you all. I replied to him about a month ago that the price I offered is already very low and I mentioned if he could find a lower quote from another professional to send it to me and I'll see what I could do. Haven't heard from him since then.
Permalink Reply by Bill Mecca on December 5, 2011 at 8:58pm He was fishing. I had a similar experience. A friend referred an artist to me for video work, I'm i a different state, but still have ties to the area. Exchanged pleasantries via email, she told me she had a video company but they left her "high and dry" so I thought she was in a tight spot. Gave her a price, if we could do several in a weekend because of the travel time involved. She said she didn't realize I was that far away. In the meantime, I see her promoting her video guy, the one who left her "high and dry" on her facebook page. she was just fishing for a lower price, wasted my time.
