what are you using? I hope to have an article for my blog shortly and will post and update, but I rigged something up yesterday using some free software www.easyprompter.com the stand alone version, it runs within an internet browser (there were some glitches).

I was shooting something for my daughter for her Television production class as they return to school shortly.

I used a Dell D400 notebook computer, the free software, some plans I got form www.creativitytospare.com (a blog that has faded) a picture frame (for the glass) some cardboard and sundry other items. It showed me a lot of the pitfalls, and the need for a more elegant solution. But since I cannot afford a system similar to the QTV setup (wth Intelliprompter software) I use at work, I need to devise a DIY Solution for a thru the lens prompter.

so what are you using?

I hack my takes together with gaffers tape and C47s. I love that Max Headroom look!

But seriously at work we have the Jonny Prompter with Intellipromter software. I'd love to hear of a poor boy's version. I bet you could make one with my new handy dandy DIY Viore field monitor I just picked up. It has an SD slot and can play DIVIX avi files. You could render out the script as a video, pop it onto the SD card and slap a piece of glass and some good ol' DIY know how (gaffers tape) and it might just work...??
:)
it's back to school time, so I haven't had time to physically work on this project, but it is in my head. I wanted to keep in simple, and since it will probably be used for me as a solo, I wanted to avoid a second monitor. But the pitfall with that is that the keyboard section of the laptop makes it difficult to get the camera lens close to the glass. So, a cloth shroud drapes too much, so I may wind up with a rigid shroud, at least on three sides.

More to come.

Thought I would re-visit this. Have changed tactics and design, Hope to have a prototype soon. I picked up a 7" digital TV that I will be using for a screen, the Dell D400 to run the software, now to build the platform... it's gonna resemble an old erector set...LOL  at least that's the plan

I'm at a technological roadblock. I got the monitor and vga converter, but I cannot get the proper image on the monitor. It's like the vertical hold has gone crazy. That's with the D400 notebook. So in troubleshooting mode, I took another older Dell Latitude laptop I use at work for my prompter, hooked up the VGA converter and the monitor and everything worked as it should. So I figure the issue is with the display adapter in the D400.  I updated the drivers but still no go.

Not sure what I should try next.
