Motion tracking can be frustrating, especially if you are using the wrong tool for the job. Case in point, if you want to place something on an object that is going to be going off screen, don't use object tracking if the camera is moving and causing the item to go off screen, use a motion/camera tracker. It will save a lot of headaches.

New version of the solar system will be uploaded shortly. Much smoother, and no slide after re-timing due to incompatibility of fractional fps with the 3D program.

After Effects now has MochaAE in CS4 as standard gear. The planar tracking in Mocha is stellar. I'll have to check out SynthEyes - my buddy at Art Center teaches it, and swears by it too.

They all have their pros and cons, what I really like about Syntheyes is it's price, speed, resolution independence and the variety of packages that you can export to. They also have excellent tech support in case any assistance is needed. They do have a demo that can be downloaded along with sample exports to a variety of the supported apps. All I can say is check it out. Also
some in the forums have stated that it could solve some things that bojou couldn't or had trouble with. Of course there are probably similar situations with Syntheyes as well, I fortunately haven't run into them yet.

I have yet to check out SynthEyes'08. I used MatchMover until recently. One of my friends is trying to convince me PFTrack is the best, but SynthEyes has an export to FinalCutPro which seems interesting (of course to AE and 3D apps as well)

Syntheyes rocks we have used it to great effect. And fxphd are doing basic and intermediate courses on it this term!

For those not familiar with Syntheyes, it is a motion / camera tracking program similar to matchmover, boujou and others. The big difference is that it is more affordable. Carrara is a 3D modeling and animation program that has roots going back to Ray Dream, but you couldn't recognize it as such now. For more info on Syntheyes check it out at ssontech.com and for info on Carrara, check it out at daz3d.com . In any case the fundamentals of tracking and integration are going to be pretty much the same across packages.

Hello and welcome to the motion tracking group, where motion tracking and the packages that do it can be discussed. On my end I use Apple's Shake and Motion as well as Syntheyes from Anderson Technologies. For 3D integration I use a combination of Syntheyes and Carrara 6 Pro
