Operation Storytime Pt. 1

The genesis of this project began with a brainstorming session around April 2004 on Camp Liberty in Baghdad, Iraq. I had a Sony Digital 8mm Handy Cam and Sony Vegas Moviemaker, my Executive Officer (XO) had some children's books his wife had sent from a group back in the states. Together, we came up with the idea of filming Soldies reading the stories to their kids and putting them on DVD to send home. Starting out...

So this is where it all begins. Four years ago, during my first tour to Iraq, I started creating motivational videos for my battalion as a way of preserving the memories from the deployment. I just got back from an ETT rotation from Afghanistan, you can check out the video on my page (I had to break it up into 6 parts for quality). I've been doing video professionally for about 10 years now, but always working for other people.

So are you a civilian contractor for the army? If so, how did you get that gig. I work on Ft. Riley as a National Guard Technician doing video work, but I'm coming to the end of my orders in January. I'm trying to start my own business in the mean time. Any advice?
