In film or HD lighting use bounce light, or diffused light when you can. Maybe pop a light through a windows for additional fill light or key light.
But remember you may have color correct the window; i.e., 3200K if using tungsten light inside. For example CTO/ND combo (85N3;06)
Never light more than a 3:1 ratio (key-fill) If you have a light meter use it religiously. Don't necessarily eyeball it all of the time. Remember, you paint with light like an artist paints with colors. Lighting is an art form. Don't always rely on the camera or your compute editor to fix things.
Think about what your doing. Judge the scene. Be creative....

saw your website and your works. The photography is impeccable. Congratulations. The idea of recording in HD is expensive but the final work is awesome.

I just post some interesting pictures on my page. With them you'll see how we did a very elaborate scene with almost no budget. The simple trick gave a stunning scene in the upcoming film ''Seven days''.
