Michael David Kuhlman replied to Jay Michael's discussion Build or Buy a Editing Computer? in the group Wedding Video Production
"I went with a hybrid "build/pre-built" scenario.  I knew how much processor speed, hard-drive, RAM, etc. I was going to need.  I bought a Dell Dimension 4550 with, at the time, lighhtning-fast 2 gigahertz processor, 1 gig of RAM,…"

Michael David Kuhlman replied to Mickham Wickham's discussion Ya Gotta Love it! in the group Wedding Video Production
"Yep.  That's the f-cked up nature of wedding production.  Why we get paid the mid-sized bucks.  Gotta think on your feet!   It's THEIR day, not yours, and they're off in la-la land (as they should be--they spent…"

Michael David Kuhlman replied to Mickham Wickham's discussion Has anyone attended this Webinar? in the group Wedding Video Production
"I'm already doing what their objectives describe, so, unless they get into marketing techniques, as far as production, for me anyway, no, it isn't worth the time and money.  Videomaker is a magazine geared toward newbies and…"

Michael David Kuhlman replied to Gordon Lamb's discussion Video to FIlm
"Seems contrast ratio is the only denominator, and, as you said, Tony, this can be overcome with lighting and gamma adjustment in post.    Also, film tends to hold the highlights better than video, including the latest HD-video-capable…"

Michael David Kuhlman replied to Michael David Kuhlman's discussion Speed is the Name of the Game in the group Wedding Video Production
"That's right, Jay. Let's talk about editing shortcuts we use on ANY type of project, to deliver the same high-quality, creative, professional result our clients expect, while making life as easy on ourselves as possible. I prefer to lay…"

Earl Chessher replied to Michael David Kuhlman's discussion Speed is the Name of the Game in the group Wedding Video Production
"If we compel ourselves to develop a work ethic that calls for fast turnaround of ANY kind of production, especially wedding videos, it becomes easier. A turnaround of anywhere from 10 days to four weeks is awesome by industry standards and…"

Michael David Kuhlman replied to Michael David Kuhlman's discussion Speed is the Name of the Game in the group Wedding Video Production
"Thanks, guys. Jay, I never PROMISE it, but it seems, to stay on top of the workload and have a bit of personal life left over, I have to crank these out fast. They're delighted, I'm delighted. I detest the editing part of this process.…"

Jay Michael replied to Michael David Kuhlman's discussion Speed is the Name of the Game in the group Wedding Video Production
"I take a lot longer too. I typically have several projects going and take much longer on a wedding. Usually about 3 weeks for a turn around with a clause in my contract that it may take longer. But i try to have it within 3 weeks and in most cases i…"

Michael David Kuhlman replied to Jay Michael's discussion Bride ~ Groom Audio in the group Wedding Video Production
"Wireless lav lapel on the groom, BUT placed near the bottom of the groom's rib-cage, NOT up near his neck. I've found that this rib placement gets a perfect recording of both bride and groom, because the mic is equal distance from…"

Michael David Kuhlman replied to Jay Michael's discussion Winter in the group Wedding Video Production
"I live in South Florida, so our winters typically feel like summers somewhere else. I did 4 weddings in October and 6 in November. A few small jobs in December. Slow-down due to Christmas. Squirreled away the cash to wait for January and February,…"

Mickham Wickham replied to Michael David Kuhlman's discussion Speed is the Name of the Game in the group Wedding Video Production
"I take a lot longer than that. Sounds like you can devote your entire time to the wedding video. I do this part time and give my customers about a 6 week turnaround time. That includes the preview and final cut. Michael"
