Hey Paul,

Thank you for your obviously commited response.
As for my resume; just check out my Page/Profile here.

I have been entertaining the idea of making movies
for a long time, but no good contacts.
I have a reply letter from James Stewart before he passed
expressing his agreement that we should always
"do what's right and not give in" and that meant a great deal to him.
I am a perfectionist, but like to find easier ways to accomplish that.
I have written, produced and directed 3 youth plays 20 to 30 mins. each.
They were "Mary's Music Box", "The Trial of Halloween" and
"A Miracle for Uncle Jim". They also included Original Songs by me.
We also did our own version of "The Champion" based on Carmen's
song.
I love Jesus for what he's done for me, and want to be useful to Him.

Your humble servant,
Ray Maynard

I liked your comment about "pricing". We do mostly weddings but the one thing I am not sure of is how to price corporate stuff. Keep up the good work!

I'm glad you like the videos.
I am hopping and believing that was you said will happen, that we can reach the new generation, that it's "addicted" to media. What I'm hopping and praying is that our New Generation Film Studio will develop and grow and have a high quality services for the church ministries and also services for the community.

For now we have some basic equipment, that was donated from USA. I wish we can set up a live multi camera system so we can film the church services, and also make TV(web) shows, talk shows. Our drama, dance and worship teams really grew much in the last year and they do a pretty good job, so I have lot's of ideas on how to film them and have them online.

Yes, when you come to Europe maybe we can meet and work together on a project.
Thank you for taking the time to talk to me! I appreciate it.

Blessings,
Sergiu

Wow Sergiu! Very nice video work. I pray that God will use you to reach the young generation of Romania in a bigger way than you could ever have imagined. Targu Mures looks like a nice place. One day I will return to Europe and I would love to hook up with you on a project. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks for the advice, i appreciate it.
I do weddings but as most of us don't prefer doing it. But in Romania is pretty big, well not the price... Filming weddings in Romania it's been going on for many years, I know people that were using the SVHS cameras and also the VHS, back than were a few people that owned those. Now, for ex in my town Targu Mures (160.000 people) in the center of the country, in Transylvania, there are several people doing weddings and events. Most of them are doing 1 camera shoot on miniDV.

A wedding usually starts in the morning 8-9 am at the city hall for the official marriage then they go to church for a sermon, or to get married by the priest or pastor, well an orthodox wedding differs quite allot from a protestant one. After church there is the celebration, where we get LOTS of food, unlike in the US, here we eat, no joke... and the the party will end somewhere at mid night. So there will be about 15 h of work as a videographer and we usually end up with 4 h of footage, that we put on 2 DVD's. I know in a way it's too much, but they all want it all, we just cut out what ever is bad.

I'm hesitating to say how much this wedding costs... here, it's way lower than US or other western countries. I am working with my church studio and use the equipment so we make some self support, and we (me and may colleague) get a % from the amount.

There it's something that does not make any sense, video equipment it's so expensive in Romania, hard to find, and services are very cheap compared to West. Rental houses... in my area I don't know any, maybe in Bucharest, but if you rent something you wouldn't make any profit.

So everybody is trying to make it work on it's own. The best is to buy equipment from US, that's what I did, I got a Canon HV30 from Crutchfield.com and a friend brought it here for me.

What kind of documentary will you be shooting? I would love to hear about it. My last big gig that I was involved was the film from FOX "The Seeker: The dark is Rising" a feature film. I was the assistant of the director and also filmed 2nd camera for behind the scenes.

Here it is 2 clips that I did for a ministry from Bucharest:

And here it is a link of a video I did (mainly testing my new cam) from my city.

I'll keep in touch and many blessings to you!

Here is a link to my Doc www.katrinamovietour.com
It is a long story here is the short of it. In 2004 Hurricane Ivan knocked down the I10 bridge crossing east bay in Pensacola Fl my house is very close to that bridge. The next week I shot a wedding in Destin Fl. Using batteries charged from a generator. With the help my friends and family my wife and I moved out of our home and into our office. With Gods help we managed to keep our business going while we repaired our home.. In 2005 I was contacted by a doctor in New Orleans looking for someone to shoot a documentary about Katrina. Still trying to recover from Ivan I packed up my kit and drove to New Orleans to meet up with Dr. Kershinstine and we shot the doc. Dr. Kershinstine was the driving force that got distribution for “Katrina Movie Tour.”

Hi Segiu, thanks for your reply. I have been doing marketing videos for the past 2 years. Corporations use them for websites and trade shows. I started by doing a company history video and it took off from there. I am surprised they video weddings in Romania. I lived in Germany for 8 years with the US Army. The Germans didn't seem open to having their wedding videotaped. Things have probably changed. This was back in the 80's. I noticed you do work for your church. I am also a christian and have done productions for my church as well. I also edit with final cut. I shoot with panasonic dvx100 and sony xdcamex1. Do you have rental houses in Romania for renting video equipment such as HD cameras, lighting, etc? I would love to get your insight on what a typical Romanian wedding video looks like. In the USA it's a big industry. Have you heard of WEVA? I want to produce a documentary next year that would require some international locations. I would love to see some of your work. I could definitely use a shooter in Eastern Europe.

The corporate business is tough to break into but the nice thing is that it leads to many jobs and you eventually have a regular client for repeat business. The best way is to contact the marketing departments of all companys with at least 300 employees. You can also contact the human resources director. They would do recruiting and training videos. Tell them that you shoot weddings but want to do more corporate work. If you don't have a sample offer a great discount for your first job but make it clear that it's only because you want a sample video. With the internet video business growing so fast it's a great business to be in. If you know web designers you can try to work with them. Also visit trade shows and talk to the people who work the booths. They always know what the company is doing and who you can contact. You can even ask if you can use their name as a referral. Visit them towards the end of the show when they aren't as busy. Maybe even buy them a cup of coffee or something.
